CJ's Journey - Update

Where do I begin except to say "Bless that baby's heart!"  We found out yesterday that CJ suffers from several visual issues, not just one.  He suffers from eye teaming problems,  accommodation problems, tracking and visual perception deficiencies.  To quote the doctor, "That little boy has a lot going on!"  That is not the first time we have heard those exact words from a doctor.  I heard the same sentence when I met with the psychologist who diagnosed the dyslexia.  I was elated and extremely heart broken at the same time.  "My little man", as I call him, has nothing but an uphill battle ahead of him every time he turns around.  And I ask, "Why Lord?"  But before I can get mad at God, CJ puts me in my place very quickly.  Between appointments we went to the Cracker Barrel to eat lunch.  CJ and I played checkers and then we had to go to the restroom.  As he was washing his hands this older lady comes in to wash her hands.  CJ politely looks

CJ's Journey

I'm feeling very called to blog about this journey with CJ.  As you know, CJ has dyslexia and we have now discovered another issue with his right eye.  We are seeing 2 specialists this week that I hope answer prayers and questions.  I feel that the visits this week are going to lead us to some difficult decisions but I do feel that after the treatments, CJ will see things in this world like he never has before. I pray the Lord puts us on the path with the correct therapist and that CJ can be assisted through the therapies.  I don't pray for healing because I truly feel there is a reason CJ has dyslexia and is on this path.  This is the way God wanted CJ and I would never pray to change that.  I only pray that I can put the resources in his path that he needs to help him.  I feel like God has put that in MY path.  There are so many people working to assist CJ on a daily basis.  God single handedly chose each of those people to put in CJ's path.  I will forever be grateful a

Welcome!

Got my welcome sticker up on the door. It's perfect for the holidays. Love it! I will just change it to my Christmas decorations this week.  Leaving the burlap and reusing the old grapevine wreath for a quick and cheap upgrade for the season!

Black Friday - to do it or not?

I'm leaning towards Not this year.  It will be the first year I have not done Black Friday.  I used to love it.  I used to live for it.  I would map out my route and what I was getting at each place and I would go.  The older I get, the less I love it.  The deals don't outweigh the time it takes to get the deal.  Standing in line for hours and hours to fight for one item....just not feeling it anymore.  Maybe it's my age but I would much rather buy it online and have it shipped right to my door.  Although I did enjoy Saturday with my husband as we did majority of our shopping for the kids.  :) I really don't agree with the retailers opening on Thanksgiving Day.  That day should be spent with your family.   However, if you are going to hit the Black Friday sales, this is by far the best site for it.   www.bfads.net It will create a list by store for you.  All you have to do is print it and go.  It has the opening hours, etc.  Everything you need in one place. Dyslexia and eye tracking problems--correlation or cause?

This has a great resource that may help with eye tracking problems (it's at the bottom of the article). Intelligent Insights on Intelligence Theories and Tests (aka IQ's Corner): Dyslexia and eye tracking problems--correlation or cause? Guest post by Joel Schneider

GRITS - daily dish

Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving has become one of my favorite and least favorite Holidays.  My favorite because I have started cooking and having Thanksgiving at my house.  Least favorite because I don't get to see as many people as I'd like to during the day.  With a blended family it is easier for us if we host Thanksgiving.  Our kids don't have the pressure of having to run here and there and every where or to be here by a certain time, etc.

Home Decor

It's Fall Y'all! I love the fall for one reason - the decor. I love the oranges, reds, yellows and golds. It makes everything feel homey and inviting. Here's the beginning of my front porch.  It's not much, but it's a start.  Yall know I don't like to spend money so I'm waiting for the Fall decor to go on sale.   (I made the cushion covers from fabric shower curtains I found on sale this summer.  They were $5 each)  I reused my son's pumpkin from Halloween (just turned it around).  I had the other pieces from years past and just moved them outside.  Reused my favorite grapevine wreath and added flowers and hung it from the door with a piece of burlap.  Burlap is my new favorite thing!

From the Door to Dinner in less Time

After a long day at work, the last thing you want to do is think about what to cook for supper.  But you know that is the first question on the minds of your hubby and kids.  So, I've learned some shortcuts to make meal time quick and easy but still feel and taste like homemade. Chicken Dishes A wonderfully wise woman shared with me one time that if you buy the frozen chicken tenders rather than the frozen chicken breast, they cook faster.  I don't usually know the morning of what we will have for dinner that night, so for me, defrosting takes valuable time.  If you buy the big bag of frozen tenders, you don't have to defrost them before you cook them.

The Morning Rat Race

I'm not a morning person. So the last thing I want to do is cook a full breakfast. Here are some quick and simple breakfast ideas: Mini breakfast casseroles - same as a large one just make them in muffin pans. There is nothing wrong with good ole cinnamon toast or grits or cereal.
